The open enterprise distribution is geared towards businesses and non-profits who want to use drupal for a front facing community portal for their business.
We at levelten have built a lot of websites for clients and find that they often involve the same features or at least variations on the same features. This is why we created this distribution.
Our hope is that someone starting out with drupal could install this and have a good start on creating an enterprise website without having to learn CCK, views and many other modules before they see any results.
